So you're ready to walk into Lincoln of New Bern and get back on to the streets of Craven County in your brand new car. You're excited to have that new car smell back in your life, to have some shiny new metal to show off to the neighborhood. You just can't wait to pull out of our Lincoln dealership lot and take your new ride out for a trip.

The last thing you want is to get hung up in the buying process. There's quite a bit of paperwork to process, I's to dot and T's to cross. Some of it can get complicated, but our team are pros when it comes to getting you in, out, and back on the road in your new Lincoln. So make sure you bring the following things along when you come in to finalize your vehicle purchase.

The all-important documents

You'll want to run down this checklist before heading into the dealership. Make sure you have everything - it'll help the buying process to move along that much faster.

Couple signing paperwork while car dealer holds out a set of keys.Proof of insurance.
  • Your driver's license. Common sense, and really, who leaves home without it? We'll need to make sure you are a properly licensed driver, so make sure your license is not expired.

  • Form of payment. You can pay by check, by cash, by loan and, in some cases, even by credit card. While our expert finance team at Lincoln of New Bern will work to find you the best possible loan, you're still likely going to need a down payment. Even if you don't need it immediately, a down payment today is less interest you'll pay tomorrow - it's always a great idea to put something forward.

  • Recent pay stubs. The banks and creditors we work with want to know that you are currently employed, and can afford the payments of the loan they're extending. The last few weeks' worth of paycheck stubs or direct deposit receipts help us to show them that you are worthy of getting that loan.

  • Proof of insurance. We'll take care of the leg work and get in touch with your insurance company to update them on the new vehicle details so you're insured the minute you drive off the lot.

  • Credit score and history. This helps to dictate the loan terms we can get for you. In the old days, it was a bit of a process to go through - today, almost every credit card company, bank, or credit union offers documentation of your current and recent credit scores. Bring that along with you and we can help you find better loans, faster.

Your trade-in - and the documents that go with it

Trading in your car with us here at Lincoln of New Bern? You'll need to bring a few things with you in addition to everything mentioned above.

  • A clean car. You don't need to get it detailed - we've got one of the best teams of detailers in New Bern right here at Lincoln of New Bern. They'll go through the car before it moves along to the pre-owned market. Still, you want to make sure you have any personal belongings out (don't forget to check the trunk) and it doesn't hurt to at least tidy up and toss away loose trash. But wiping out the air vents? We got that.
  • Service records. Beyond the vehicle history report, we love to see documentation of regular preventative maintenance, as well as major repairs that you've had to take care of over the years.
  • Vehicle title and registration. We'll need these papers to take ownership of your trade-in. We trust you, but we still have to make sure that the vehicle is yours to sell, free and clear.
  • Loan information and Pay-Off Amount. Sometimes you don't want to wait until your current vehicle is paid off - don't worry, we can work with you on that. If you are still paying a loan, the company that owns the vehicle will want to get paid, and we'll get the vehicle title from them.

The good news is that our team here at Lincoln of New Bern will take care of that transfer work, they're pros at it. It's a standard part of the buying process, and it won't interfere with you getting in your new car or truck.

Other things

Odds and ends can go a long way to your car purchase experience. These are things that certainly will be helpful for you to bring along, and could end up saving you in the long run.

  • A list of references, as some lenders want to be able to call and check with business or personal references in addition to pulling credit scores and reports.
  • Pre-approved vehicle loans, because even though we have some great connections with banks and other finance sources here at Lincoln of New Bern, there's always the possibility that your credit union, credit card company, or bank can provide a better APR or help you get approved for a bigger loan. By getting pre-approved, you have something in your pocket already.
  • Rebate Eligibility Support. Many car makers, Lincoln included, offer a variety of unique discounts. From military service discounts to recent college graduate rebates, to customer loyalty discounts, there are plenty on offer. You'll need the documents and proof to back it up though, so be aware of the individual requirements for each rebate.

They also help to keep you from making additional trips or missing out on potential savings.

Know Your Lincoln Parts: Car Engine FAQs

Know Your Lincoln Parts: Car Engine FAQs

In order to take great care of your Lincoln vehicle, it pays to know how it works. While you don't need to become an expert, understanding major Lincoln parts is a smart idea. Here are some basics about your engine: How Does it Work? Your vehicle utilizes an internal combustion engine. This takes the heat generated from burning gas to create torque. This torque is then sent to the wheels to get the car moving. Engines are comprised of many parts that all work in conjunction with one other. These include the engine block, pistons, and crankshaft. The pistons move up and down to spin the crankshaft, which gets the wheels going. How Many Different Types of Engines are There? All gas-powered cars have internal combustion engines, but there are many varieties. Turbo- and supercharged engines, for example, provide additional power, as they are designed to pump extra air into the engine, which results in more oxygen and more fuel to burn. Diesel engines also offer increased power - and torque - but they don't have sparkplugs. Engines also come with a different number of cylinders. The more of these you have, the faster that crankshaft gets turned, which results in more power. What's the Best Way to Maintain an Engine? One of the great things about an engine is that you don't have to worry about it too much, as it mostly can take care of itself. However, regular maintenance is vital, and this has to include oil changes. When fresh oil flows through the engine, this ensures that it runs as cleanly and efficiently as possible, which boosts both performance and gas mileage. Is your Lincoln due for an oil change? When is APR Used

When is APR Used?

When it comes to buying a car, you want a trusted dealer that will make sure you completely understand your agreement. That's why you've come to Lincoln of New Bern, where your trust and satisfaction are highly valued. We make it our mission to explain all the gory details of the car buying process so you are guaranteed to leave with total confidence in your purchase and a smile. So, what is APR anyway? It stands for Annual Percentage Rate, or the total amount of interest paid on your car loan over one year, including the fees and charges of initiating and maintaining the loan. This means that an APR is only used when you purchase a car and take out a loan, it is not used for leases. APR varies depending on the loan offer, and whether its a good or bad APR really depends on the economy, your individual tolerances and qualifications. A high APR means higher, short-term payments. A low APR means a lower monthly payment, but loans of this kind are dependent upon a strong economy and a high credit score for the borrower. APR versus Money Factor Simply put, if you're leasing a car, your monthly payments include depreciation, taxes, and interest, and the money factor determines the interest charge. In this way, a money factor is used in lieu of APR. Are they equivalent? Not really. Then why are money factors even a thing? Because leases require more specific components in the equation, making it much harder to calculate in the conventional way. So, instead, we use a money factor. Nonetheless, calculating the equivalent APR for your lease can still be helpful. You can convert your money factor into the more commonly used APR by simply multiplying the money factor by 2,400. Money Factor x 2,400 = APR For example: (0.03) x 2,400 = 7.2% Do you still have questions about APR or other car financing terms?
