Performance & Fuel Efficiency

The 2020 Lincoln MKZ is a graceful cruiser with smooth suspension and three engine options for different levels of power and efficiency. In comparison, the 2020 Cadillac CT5 only has two engine options and a capable but less refined overall performance than the finely-tuned Lincoln MKZ. The base engine of the MKZ is a quick 2.0L turbo that gets 245-hp, great for light everyday driving because it gets 24 MPG combined. Compare this to the Cadillac CT5' base 2.0L turbo engine that gets 237-hp, 7 less horsepower than the MKZ's base engine, but receives slightly better fuel economy at 26 MPG combined.

The next-up option on the Lincoln MKZ is a thrilling 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine that packs 350-hp in FWD models and 400-hp with AWD. The Cadillac CT5's next engine is also a 3.0L V6 that gets less power at 335-hp on FWD models and 360-hp on AWD models. So, this powertrain on the Lincoln MKZ will do better merging and overtaking vehicles on the highway than on the Cadillac CT5. As for fuel economy, the V6 engine on both the 2020 MKZ and the 2020 CT5 gets about 21 MPG combined.

The 2020 Lincoln MKZ also has a hybrid model, which the 2020 Cadillac CT5 does not offer. This fuel-efficient MKZ has a 2.0L Atkinson Hybrid Powertrain paired with an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) that receives 42 MPG city and 39 MPG highway. In conclusion, even though the 2020 Lincoln MKZ's base engine isn't quite as efficient as the 2020 Cadillac CT5's base engine, it pulls ahead in power & capability and also offers a hybrid powertrain, making it the winner when it comes to performance and driving dynamics.

Design & Technology

The design of the 2020 Lincoln MKZ is the epitome of luxury and elegance. The exterior sculpt is confident and strong, with plenty of useful features such as adaptive HID headlamps, heated outside mirrors for icy winters, a PIN entry system, and windshield-acoustic-laminated glass for a quiet ride. The 2020 Cadillac CT5 has a less chiseled and sophisticated presence, and does not offer adaptive HID headlamps for increased visibility around curves or over hills, nor does it offer an exterior PIN entry system in case your keys get locked in the car.

The interior of the 2020 Lincoln MKZ is carefully-designed and outfitted with incredibly soft & durable materials like genuine leather & wood. The MKZ comes standard with Luxury Soft Touch heated front seats and offers heated rear seats as an option. Heated front seats cost extra in the CT5 and heated rear seats are not available. More standard features on the 2020 Lincoln MKZ are rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone automatic temperature control, ten cupholders, four 12V powerpoints, and a Lincoln Premium Audio System with 11 speakers.

Safety

Both of these luxury sedans have a long list of safety and driving-assist features to prevent accidents and protect you if the unexpected happens. Both the Lincoln MKZ and the Cadillac CT5 have airbags around the entire cabin, rearview cameras, traction control, and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding. Only the 2020 Lincoln MKZ has advanced safety features like available inflatable seatbelts that inflate when there is a collision to spread the force over a larger portion of the body and limit head & neck movement and an available driver alert monitor that detects when you are falling asleep and sounds a warning for your attention. There are no equivalent features for these on the Cadillac CT5.

As you can see, the 2020 Lincoln MKZ is the clear winner when it comes to overall performance, design features, and safety.
